Departure – A Journey Between Continents

Three comic artists tell the story of migratory birds between Europe and Africa.
During the international Fumetto Comic Festival in Lucerne, a special collaboration emerged between BADI Culture and three comic artists from the region.
Each year, the festival brings illustrators, comic artists, and storytellers from all over the world to Lucerne. In addition to the main program, so-called satellite exhibitions take place throughout the city – in studios, ateliers, and creative spaces.
This year, the BADI Culture Studio on Grimselweg participated in the Satellite Program for the first time. For this occasion, we collaborated with three comic artists to develop the "Abflug Foulard" series – a small collection of silk scarves inspired by the journey of migratory birds.

Three Artists – Three Perspectives
Each design brings its own visual language and interprets the theme in an individual way.
Each artist tells the story of a bird journeying between two continents.
Movement Between Places
Migratory birds move between Europe and Africa every year. This seasonal journey connects landscapes, cultures, and habitats.
For BADI Culture, this movement between places is also a central idea – as a brand with roots in Switzerland and South Africa. Migration, exchange, and encounter are reflected not only in the concept of the series but also in the brand's history.
Comic & Textile
The illustrations were specifically developed for the scarves and combine the visual language of comics with a classic accessory.
The color palette of the series was deliberately chosen to be fresh, clear, and versatile. At the same time, the colors harmonize with different skin tones, making the scarves a vibrant everyday companion.
