Design Talk – Sky Series
Split
Salome Gut, designer of the Sky series, and Samuel, Creative Director of BADI Culture, present the three designs of the Sky series .
The Sky series
When was the last time you simply gazed at the clouds? And do the sky and clouds look the same everywhere in the world?
This curiosity is the driving force behind the Sky series . Salome and I started with the idea for the Sky series a year ago, and this autumn we are presenting three scarves: Amafu , Maru , and Gizagizai .
The name brings the world closer
The names were deliberately chosen and invite viewers to travel and explore. Each one is named "Clouds" in one of the many languages spoken along the direct route between us (Switzerland) and South Africa. The Sky series inspires dreams and connects people from distant worlds.
The Amafu Design
"Amafu “ isiZulu, a Bantu language spoken in South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique and Eswatini.
Grainy cloud images that evoke childhood memories – watching clouds paint shapes and stories in the sky. A simple, fresh design that combines lightness and nostalgia.
The Gizagizai Design
"Gizagizai" is Hausa, an Afro-Asiatic language spoken south of the
Sahara is spoken.
Inspired by the night sky, the design offers a serene, expansive view through the clouds into space. Structured by the stars, it creates a harmonious balance, underscored by dark colours that are versatile and easy to combine.
The Maru Design
“Maru” is Sesotho, a Bantu language spoken in the central and northern regions of South Africa.
The most colourful design in the series captures the magic of an evening mood – inspired by the fantastic colours of a sunset. A brief, enchanting moment in which sweet grey, pink, and turquoise notes blend harmoniously.
