Photos with Abdi by Martin Lustenberger

Abdi is a hairdresser. He's been in Switzerland for three years and comes from Mogadishu, Somalia. Now in Switzerland, he's doing an apprenticeship at the Scofano-Bühler-Cefariello hair salon, an elegant salon in the heart of Lucerne, run by three women. A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to get a haircut from Abdi. Since an apprentice isn't allowed to cut clients' hair until he's passed all his exams, he practices on models once a week. Everything he learns is then practiced and tested. The cut was excellent.
Abdi and Martin Lustenberger, photographer and video producer , are friends. They occasionally do photoshoots together. Today we're seeing some pictures featuring our Amanzi 70x70 organic cotton scarf and African Olive 68x68 silk scarf .

Abdi, since when have you been cutting hair?
Adbi had a passion for cutting hair since he was 12 or 13 years old. In Somalia, this was done with a comb and blade. The family team at He greatly appreciates Scofano-Bühler-Cefariello and learns a lot from him.

Martin, what is important to you when you photograph people?
People fascinate me. Seeing someone relaxed and natural is beautiful. It's not always easy to capture that in a photograph, but the moment I do achieve it brings me joy.

Abdi, which products do you like to wear in everyday life and why?
I like scarves and often wear them to the hair salon. I find the feel of them fascinating. For example, I love the softness of the African Forest silk scarf and how pleasant it feels against the skin.
Martin and I have known each other for a while and are office neighbours in Neubad, Lucerne. I regularly get feedback from him on existing and new products, as he travels a lot for photo shoots and also enjoys traveling with his partner.
What are you looking for when you buy a product?
Before I buy a product, I like to research it and consider whether I really need it. Quality for durability is important to me, as this is a key aspect of sustainability.
I wear the Koei Belt Wide, dark brown with a matte silver buckle , every day and appreciate its simplicity. It goes with everything and can be worn for any occasion.
See you soon,
