Cape Town, a hiker's paradise
Share
Cape Town has a lot to offer, including being a wonderful hiking paradise. In no time at all, you can go from the beach to 1000m in the mountains. South Africa is incredibly diverse, not only in terms of its people but also its nature. You notice this immediately when you climb Table Mountain. A good example of this is the Cecilia Forest to Devilliers Dam hiking trail.
Cecilia Forest to Devilliers Dam
Table Mountain can be climbed from all sides, offering new discoveries at every turn. The Cecilia Forest to Devilliers Dam hiking trail leads up from the far side of Table Mountain. As mentioned in the interview with Amor, it begins in Newlands Forest. Anyone familiar with Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden will have already visited Newlands. The hike is only about 7 km long, but it climbs steeply through Skeleton Gorge. What makes this trail special is the diverse vegetation – from bushy fynbos to dense, primeval forest, and suddenly white sand with views across the entire Cape.

What does the hiking trail have to do with the botany series?
It was precisely this breathtaking diversity that inspired the botany series . This hiking trail, however, only covers a small part of South Africa's flora, specifically a small part of the Fynbos Forest. There's also the entire underwater world of the kelp forests. But more on that another time :)
